Giving Back to our Community


Math-a-Thon - St. Jude's
Students in Grades 1-4 have an opportunity to participate in the Math-a-Thon each year to benefit St. Jude's. During the Math-a-Thon participating students collect pledges for completing math problems in a math workbook. On average BES raises around $1500 through this fundraiser for St. Judes Children's Hospital each year.
Jump Rope for Heart - American Heart Association
Each year our students are invited to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge event at BES organized by our gym teachers. Students are given pledge envelopes to collect money for the American Heart Association and then participate in the event that takes place after-school. In the 2021-2022 school year BES raised a record $6,586 for the American Heart Association!
Relay for Life - American Cancer Society
BES Staff and Students support the American Cancer Society through a variety of fundraisers, dress down events, and more. Each Spring we enter a team of staff and students in the Relay for Life event in Northern Worcester County. BES raises thousands each year for the ACS.
Diakonia Shelter- Canned Food Drive
Faculty, staff, students, and parents are invited to donate canned food and non perishable items that are sent to our local homeless shelter, Diakonia. The food drive starts every October during Red Ribbon Week as part of our Drug Free campaign and is referred to as our "Can the Drugs" food Drive. The Food Drive runs until Thanksgiving week when all the collected food items are then donated to Diakonia. Visit the link to learn more about donating or volunteering with Diakonia.
United Way & Community Health Charities
Each year Teachers and Staff at Buckingham choose to donate thousand to our local United Way or Community Health Charities organizations through one time donations or payroll deductions. Overall Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) raises about $50,000 per year for United Way.

Dress Down and Casual Day Funds
Our faculty and staff dress down on Fridays to support a number of charitable causes. Our Dress down fund helps support community needs as well as Buckingham students and families that may have gone through a crisis situation such as a house fire or medical setback. Students also participate is casual or spirit days to support organizations like the American Cancer Society.
Worcester County Education Foundation
Our teachers and community support the Worcester County Educational Foundation through donations which help schools with digital conversion needs and our county wide 1:1 device initiative. To learn more about the Worcester County Education Foundation click the photo link.

In Annual Donations for Community Organizations
BES Faculty, Staff and Students give back to our community each year through fundraising efforts to support a number of charities. We are proud of the support we are able to provide to these organizations. We aim to create a culture of caring by teaching students the importance of being involved in their community.

Alex's Lemonade Stand
BES placed THIRD in the Great (National) Lemonade War by raising money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation during our One School, One Book event in February. While reading the Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies, BES raised $2855 dollars to support childhood cancer research!
